If you’ve ignored Substack Notes in 2024, it’s time to rethink your strategy in 2025.
Here’s why:
Substack is my home. It’s where I keep all my content, connect with your subscribers (my email list), and cultivate my brand.
Substack Notes is the bustling marketplace just outside my home. It's alive with activity—restacks, fresh Notes, and conversations from Substackers all over the world. When I post a Note, it joins the flow of other Notes in this vibrant marketplace, where readers can discover and interact with it.
Here’s an example from my first snowy family vacay (freezing cold in the Black Forest area in Germany, I’m cuddled in my bed writing this newsletter edition):
If I’d only post from my “home” and never visit the buzzy marketplace of Substack Notes (the internal social media network), my content would only reach my subscribers and wouldn’t get 71K views.
Since I’m active on Notes, I can engage with a wider audience and grow my subscriber base much faster.
And earn money by being visible on Notes:
However, I often feel overwhelmed trying to stay consistent since I’m a part-time writer and entrepreneur with two kids in the house, and I know I’m not alone. Actually, I’m in good company. I bet you’re busy, too!
Until recently, one of the biggest frustrations I heard from fellow Substack writers and bootcampers from the Online Writing Club was this:
“I’d like to be on Substack Notes, but I’m super busy. Can I schedule my posts on Notes?”
Unfortunately, the answer was always no. Substack doesn’t offer an API (application programming interface), and no tool exists to schedule your posts on Notes.
Well… now I can tell you there’s a new revolutionary tool that lets you schedule your Substack posts on Notes - thanks to a brilliant Online Writing Club member called
!Finn Created the “Substack Scheduled Notes Chrome Extension”
Finn knew this was our number one pain point. As a true innovator, he created the Substack Scheduled Notes Chrome Extension. I hear you say: OH YEAH!
Finn Analyzed Top-Performing Substacks with 10,000 Paid Subscribers
As a software developer, Finn loves working with data and building tools. He recently analyzed Substack’s top-performing publications (10,000+ paid subscribers) and discovered a fascinating trend.
These successful writers post the most Notes (30+ monthly).
Does this mean Notes cause growth?
Not necessarily. But correlation often hints at opportunity. And Finn didn’t stop there.
He ran an experiment: When he started publishing daily Notes, his subscriber growth accelerated dramatically.
On November 21st, I got the first working version, 0.1, ready and started scheduling frequent Notes on my progress.
My newsletter total traffic didn’t just increase—it exploded. In just 30 days, I experienced an incredible 30x boost in views.

Hey there, I'm looking to join the membership, but I have a question - I am desiring a mimicked system of my email onboarding with my new oracle app, but generating the membership, trial and communication through substack and remove my Circle subscription.
Is there "work around" options to mimick drip campaigns, or insights on the client journey ?
You are probably the answer to my prayers, and probably the God sent you, @Kristina God . 😅 Sorry, no pun intended (yes, it was intended), but I will look at your videos, as I’m still struggling to figure out Substack.
Hi Chris, happy to help with The Online Writing Club.
It's not a pen name. It's my real name. It's British
Thanks for your answer. Your videos seem to be very useful, I will watch them when I have more time. 😊
Super! I'll send you a DM later. Pretty sick 🤒
This year I will be writing 365 articles, which will be my highest count in writing my articles.
Thanks, Kristina and Finn for the discount coupon. I've had my eye on this Chrome extension since I learned about it. 😊
Ahh wonderful. Happy to help.
Hope to see you in my Substack SHINE LIVE next Monday 2pm EST.
This will be our kick-off session. Yay!
I just dedicated my 365 days to my writing.
Just one more question, Kristina and Finn, you mentioned: "Remember to leave your browser tab open to your Notes page. Your note will get posted at the scheduled time".
Update: I-Got-it. My-Computer-Need-to-be-ON-as-its-Chrome-pulgin.
Do you mean I need to have the computer ON after I schedule? Because I have other social media scheduling tools, and once I schedule, they will post automatically without my computer being ON. Please do reply :)
Hi Aby, this Chrome extension uses your Chrome browser to post the Notes you scheduled, so you need to keep your computer ON afterward. Also, if you close your browser or reopen the window on another web page, the plugin won't be able to post your Notes.
Those other social media scheduling tools don't support Substack because their APIs are not documented.
Substack may develop the capability to schedule Notes in the future or provide documented APIs for developers. I don't know about their plans, but scheduling notes is an important capability.
I built this Chrome plugin to address this problem, help writers schedule notes, and grow their newsletters while we await the Substack team's solution.
Kristina, Thanks for recommending Finn Chrome Plug-in; I just bought it. Thanks a million. BTW Finn's data-driven posts are amazing, too related to substack posts and notes
Hi Aby, they are amazing!
Finn will share more awesome insights oon
I think its awesome. However, isnt against the substack policy to avoid bots ? I am afraid of install it and get some ban
I've spoken to Substack and it's legit to use the scheduler as long as you use it for good! So I'm happy to keep promoting it and inspiring others
Hi Marison, this Chrome extension uses exactly the same methods that you use to post Notes with your Chrome browser; it just allows you to schedule and post them later.
This is NOT a bot of any kind, and you can't use Substack credentials of anyone else than your own that you used to log in.
It is built to help writers write Notes and post them later at a scheduled time.
Hi Finn. Thanks. I do understood how it works. My concern is about how far it can be considered a bad trick, because, lets say, if substack engineers want to add this feature it would be too simple and easy. If you cant schedule there should be a reason. The policy only says: "We may intervene to remove accounts engaged in artificial or inauthentic activity on community surfaces.".
I dont know. I loved what you did but I would feel safe if someone from substack team loves too :P
I've spoken to Substack and it's legit to use the scheduler as long as you use it for good! So I'm happy to keep promoting it and inspiring others
You can reach out to Substack and ask them :) It's fine as long as it's a helpful tool and you're not using your account only for promotion and marketing
If somebody used this tool to write 1440 Notes and schedule them for every minute of the day, that would definitely be considered inauthentic activity.
However, this tool still requires you to write those 1440 Notes manually and click the schedule button 1440 times, which is a lot of work. You could save the scheduling effort and just post those notes directly.
This tool was NOT designed to help inauthentic activity. On the contrary, I built it so that writers can focus on writing thoughtful Notes, save drafts, and come back editing them. You can schedule the posting time once you are happy with your note.
I am working a 9-to-5 job and cannot post Notes during the day, so that is one of the reasons I wanted to schedule mine. Many other users live in different time zones and wish to post Notes during the U.S. daytime. These are valid and authentic reasons.
Substack engineers support a community of 30 million+ users and tens of thousands of creators worldwide. They might even have this feature on their roadmap. However, they are busy working on other priorities, so we don't know if and when they will get to it.
I don't have any contacts in that organization, and nobody has contacted me about this Chrome extension. I would happily donate the source code to Substack if that would help them to accelerate their plans.
If you are concerned about using this tool, I recommend waiting until Substack develops this capability.
Hi Madison, based on your comment I already reached out to Substack support for an official statement.
They know my Online Writing Club is for helping people and making their writing life easier. I'm not here to game the system. Neither is Finn.
So I'll share heir response as soon as I get it.
Finn has been promoting his tool for months now and I guess he would have been banned by now 😂
@kristina and @finn I would love to understand your reply to @Marison's comment above
Wow, I was looking forward to that functionality. Thank you Finn for such an exceptional Chrome extension and Kristina for sharing it.
You're so welcome, Rafa! It's definitely a game-changer, and all credit goes to Finn for creating such an exceptional tool. I’m thrilled to share it with our community—it’s going to make staying consistent on Substack so much easier! Let me know how it works for you! You can buy it with the discount code from Finn for members and friends of the Club for $9 - which is a steal. But we want to make it available for as many people as possible.
