Do you want to get featured in the Huffington Post?
You are not alone.
You are in good company.
There are so many writers who want to get featured in the publication of their dreams.
But how to reach out to the media outlet?
How to write a pitch that gets noticed?
And what to do if they accept your cold pitch?
Ashley Broadwater can take you by the hand.
She has been writing since she was a little girl. In her 20s, Ashley graduated from one of the top journalism schools in the US (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in journalism and media), got featured in Rewire, Yahoo, Well and Good, Buzzfeed, and is a writer for the Huffington Post with 117M visits per month.
Covering mental health topics is her passion.
I think it's just something that affects all of us and is under-talked about. There's so much stigma. And so I really just like educating people and learning more myself too about how we can support people and all that kind of thing.
Ashely is also getting her master's in clinical mental health counseling.

Here are 7 steps to get published in the HuffPost in a nutshell:
Research the HuffPost: Start by exploring the Huffington Post's sections, especially the one related to your topic. Familiarize yourself with their tone, style, and the types of articles they publish.
Find the Right Editor: Search for editors on social media platforms like X or use Google to find their contact details.
Craft a Pitch: Write a short, 2-paragraph pitch. Focus on a unique angle of the topic rather than a broad subject. Mention potential experts you would interview for the piece and include links to any writing samples that showcase your creds.
Handle Rejection Positively: Rejection is common. Keep pitching new ideas, and don’t take rejection personally. It’s part of the pitching game.
Engage with the Community: Network with other writers and engage with editors on social media. Building relationships can increase your chances of getting noticed.
Submit Writing Samples: Include links to your previous work, even if they’re from platforms like Medium. This gives editors a sense of your style and expertise.
If Accepted, Write the Article: Once your pitch is accepted, follow the guidance from the editorial team and submit your article. Be open to feedback and revisions.

Hi there Kristina, I really enjoyed this article. Great fabulous advice as always. I also saved it for future reference when I am ready to expand on writing and pitching stories. To answer your question about a magzaine I always wanted to write for in high school I had this teacher Mr Y. I can't say or prononunce his full name as it had every letter in the alphabet lol. Long story short Mr. Y was my awesome Advanced English teacher he kind of kickstarted my desire to write and he bought the class a subscription to the New Yorker which is a presitigous magazine. I assume it still is as I haven't read it in awhile. But I always had a dream to publish my fiction and maybe even non fiction there. Thank you for this piece as it relit the fire I once had. It kind of has twinkled with going back to work then my friend came to visit for a week so I have been a bit preoccupied. Today I attempted to do a few things but I am still a bit tired. Tomorrow I shall return to a somewhat normal writing schedule. As always thanks for all that you do. Blessings. :) :)
Hi Bill! So happy to hear that this relit your fire :) I hope it goes well! We're here to support you. Take care of yourself!
Oh the New Yorker. Wow. That would be a nice achievement.
Bet you're busy back at work, Bill, but if you really want it, you can get published.
There are also cool journalist here on Substack teaching how to reach out to the media.
I'll soon share another podcast with someone who got their Substack story in a newspaper.
We just need to know HOW and of course gain the confidence to do it.

Anywhos I am planning on transferring to another department as soon as I can. Thanks for your valuable insights I truly appreciate it friend. Blessings. :)
I can't wait for the podcast club. Will you send a link?
