Write a Substack Note a Day (Almost)… and Watch What Happens
Hint: It's not crickets :)
The only constant in life? Change.
Just ask Linda Lebrun from Substack’s Writer Partnerships team.
She left the Notes fam a few months back and now works for Koyfin as Head of Partnerships (😭 we miss you, Linda).
I even got to publish her last interview.
In it, she spilled the insider tea:
Notes is the #1 growth engine right now. It’s where new readers find you before they ever hit “subscribe.”
It’s okay to not always be on. You don’t need to post 24/7. Post when you feel inspired.
Writing should be fun. Short + sweet = sticky.
Amen!
Don’t Snooze on Substack Notes
So here’s the truth I shared with you in my Mini Substack Notes series (this is #4):
If you’re snoozing on Notes, you’re leaving subscribers on the table!
I’ve seen it firsthand.
Bootcampers of mine are waking up to hundreds (sometimes 400–500!) new subscribers a month via Notes.
Imagine opening your dashboard and seeing those numbers.
Yesterday I shared
’s story. She got more than 800 subscribers with one post on Notes! She wrote:
“I was a little scared by the tsunami of response to what I thought was a simple statement essentially that it ain’t over till it’s over.”
Now let’s talk BONUSES
This year’s Notes Kickstarter Bootcamp is more stacked (pun intended) than ever.

Copycats (in The Loveliest Way)
Today, I was chatting with founding member, Substack Notes bootcamper and soon-to-be-published author (The Cost of Quiet)
about a Note she restacked.I told her,
“She’s posting the same viral Note over and over again.”

Repurposing your best stories is king on any social media platform (Notes is social media!).
In fact, there are plenty of writers out there repeating their message over and over and over and over and over and over again… just dressed up in slightly different words.
Good thing? Bad thing?
You decide!
Here’s One of the Gazillions of Lessons I’ve Learned in 3.5 Years of Writing Online
When you’re stuck, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
Just borrow some of the juice from what’s already worked, for you or for someone else.
That’s exactly why David and I put together 365 Notes ideas for you inside The (Almost) Daily Notes Writer.
Here are a few examples of Notes you’ll often see on Notes that you can totally “copy” with your own twist:
Even American music critic and historian Ted Gioia shared in an interview with David Perell:
“I try to adapt my writing to what is right in that peticular setting.”
It is a particular setting.
Notes, especially, is its own subculture
(Alsmost)Copycat"? Sure.
But in the cutest, loveliest, “I’m new here and just trying to figure this out” way.
And it works.
It could be as simple as introducing yourself, or asking Substack’s algorithm to connect you with other gardeners and flower lovers.
It could be sharing your life story in three sentences. Or showing off your vegetable harvest and declaring, “I’m rich now!”
That’s Substack Notes.
Don’t Just Copy-and-Paste - Feel Inspired
Don’t just repeat like a robot (as many do!) over and over again
Add your own two cents.
Bring your own expertise, skills, wisdom, and perspective.
That’s what you’ll see with Notes challenges. Someone throws out a prompt, and suddenly dozens of writers are chiming in.
Same topic, totally different voices.
If you’re now rolling your eyes….
The (Almost) Daily Notes Writer is not a “copy this” playbook.
It’s 365 springboards. Prompts you can run with, twist, spin, or remix until they sound like you.
Because nobody wants a Notes robot.
We want you!
Why I Care So Much About Notes
1,5 years ago, I had:
3,000 free subs
0 paid subs
0 followers on Notes
Today?
15,000 subs
Hundreds of paid readers
An invite-only community of 340+ writers
Top #25 Education Substack
Top #50 in Germany
Do I credit Notes? Yup. 86% of my subscribers came via Substack’s network! At least 28% of my subscribers came through the app.
That’s why I built my Notes Bootcamp in summer 2024.
To shortcut you past the “what do I post?” and “why isn’t this working?” phase, and get you into the fun part faster — so you can actually dance in the Notes Club, as I always say. You then fly, be more creative and share your own art form.
And maybe your Note inspires someone else to open up.
- To share the days they’ve been sober.
- The miles they’ve walked.
- The kids they’ve raised.
Or even the things they still want to do before they die — so they won’t carry the same regrets so many do at the very end. (shoutout to
and her mortality movement!)Because let’s be honest:
You’d rather be writing your (long form) newsletter, your book, your journal than spending hours scrolling through your short form Notes feed… am I right?
The truth? A lot of people never even jump on Notes. Or they’re just flailing around, scrolling and consuming, without posting a thing.
As online writers we are creators. We want to create something.
I hope this helps you unstuck yourself and feel inspired.
This made my day. Thanks! You know who you are!
So Here’s My Nudge:
👉 Don’t sleep on Notes.
👉 Don’t overthink what to post.
👉 And don’t miss this Bootcamp
🎊 (and all $1,200 worth of bonuses) including The (Alsmost) Daily Notes Writer.
One of the 30 spots left could be yours.
