I've been a LinkedIn user and contributor for a few years now and have build a following and got a bit of business.
I've been dabbling with Substack Notes but want to start a paid Newsletter on Substack as a new revenue stream for my consulting and speaking business.
I've been working out a strategy to expand the business and suddenly I see this post when I click on Substack with my morning coffee. It's interesting how things like that happening. So, I'm looking forward to this boot camp.
Fantastic - look forward to meeting you in the Bootcamp! If you’re already getting business from LinkedIn, layering a paid Substack on top makes commercial sense. Substack reported in late 2025 that more than 50,000 writers are now earning money on the platform, with top creators generating six-figure revenue streams. It’s no longer experimental. It’s infrastructure!
Are you planning to position the paid newsletter as premium thinking for existing clients, or as a front-end funnel into your consulting work?
Awesome thanks! You're so right. I've been thinking a lot about this- what is the purpose and what are the goals for each... would love any insight you can share!
@SusieLonsberry Want to see something cool? I've been on LinkedIn a long time and have a decent audience (you can read about that in the post further down). But my posts and articles have been ho-hum.
I started a new 5-article series this week here on Substack and began cross-promoting it there on LI. Similar stuff to what I've been doing for the past 8 months, so nothing remarkable.
Suddenly BOOM! A viral spike over on LinkedIn posts.
I went from my best-performing post ever, getting around 2,500 impressions, to (as of this morning) one at 16,272 and the other at 7,024.
Over the past 2 days!
It's remarkable. Now, is it a corner turned or blind luck catching an algorithm wave? I don't know, but all I'm saying is that it is possible.
I am beyond surprised. One day later, and the momentum keeps rolling. I just broke 20,001 impressions and reached over 15,500 LI Members.
Now, Reality check: have my subscriptions spiked... not one inch, but it's momentum on LinkedIn, so I will see if it pulls my other content through too.
Absolutely Kristina! Would love to share what little wisdom I have :-). You are a great inspiration and coach to people, a quality I admire.
That post ended up at 26361 impressions. We can deconstruct it against my audience and talk about that and what else I was doing that week. It’s a little interesting in the connections. As I did do a paid add on another post the day before, but not this one. I got the boost on the other add, but this one pulled way past the paid one. Fascinating.
Definitely interested! I've been posting on both for the last 8 weeks and while I started with a much larger audience on LinkedIn, growth on there is soooooo slow compared to Substack. But as I write about leadership and planning, I know there's a lot of potential to find my people on LinkedIn. Would love to figure out how to get some momentum on that platform.
That makes complete sense. Substack growth often feels faster because the algorithm rewards subscription behaviour. LinkedIn is different. It’s a trust platform first, a growth platform second. Eight weeks is still early days on LinkedIn. Momentum there tends to build through conversation, not just publishing.
If you’re writing about leadership and planning, the opportunity is absolutely there. The shift is usually from “publishing essays” to “starting professional discussions.”
Thanks, that's really helpful. I've been a lurker for a while on there lol and am close to 1000 connections, but very early in sharing my own ideas. Appreciate the encouragement to be patient and find/make conversations.
so delighted to read this I love your energy. I was on LinkedIn before and am finding my Agency Clients are on LI are wondering what is she going on about a Book Club as thats my home on Substack its been interesting seeing reach change. I only have 3000 approx but our Agency inbound is all LI so its important I dont confuse too much. Still reconciling it all really!
Hi @Kristina God, thank you for the lovely mention in your post and for highlighting my LinkedIn-to-Substack journey in such depth. It’s flattering to see it framed as a best practice ;-) In reality, it’s an ongoing experiment. Building a meaningful bridge between platforms is almost a discipline in itself. I’ll actually be hosting a live session on February 19 to unpack the strategy and share some of the lessons learned so far.
I am a LinkedIn user and I post daily and this was on my list of things to do. I wanted to repurpose my Substack to a LinkedIn newsletter anyway so this fits right in. So this fits right in.
You'll be one of the rockstars . Found someone else from Germany via my feed yesterday too and we have a Bootcamp grad from 2024 who's now hiuuuuge on LinkedIn. Can't wait to get started... But need to finalize the landing page first . Hope all is well. Guten Morgen aus Deutschland
Brilliant Kristina, good writing! Distracted is the name of my game, with too many irons in the fire. Start, stop, watch another webinar, write a book, travel, live in Puerto Rico for three years, being multi-talented,multi-subjected challenges most people, me among them. Love LinkedIn, started posting there, then distraction hit. Your bootcamp excites me, I'll keep on writing and posting.
Hi Aries, thanks for your email. I'll keep you posted and think the best is of Melanie coaches me and I'll set up my profile so you can learn from it. Also I bet I'm gonna make lots of mistakes haha
I’ve been on LinkedIn since June 2006, so just 9 months longer than you Charisse (See I found you!). I have 3,072 connections, and 3,281 followers. The big issue is that other than impression counts, and direct reactions and comments its very difficult to get feedback on how your content performs. Also to your point you dont own anyone there, LI restricted the ability you once had to extract your connections details at least. Thankfully I did do a big extract several years ago when I was at 1700 connections.
But I have started cross posting about my Substack articles and my YouTube content.
Kristina, your plan is great, it’s a real intersection for professionals and you are correct about the very limited number of busy contributors. But there is a serious rise of AI slop auto content. The second is talking with a number of my close contacts, they sometimes wait weeks before they see my content for the first time. The LI algorithm is a fickle beast.
As an experiment I actually did a paid promo on an item with a stated plan of increase in impressions. It worked remarkably well, but then the content was tight and personally compelling too, but it absolutely lifted the number of my followers who saw in addition to ad generated (non followers) who saw. I;ll be interested to see if that’s a one and done, or if there is any halo effect on my other posts this week.
I have had a LinkedIn account for decades but haven’t paid much attention to it. I always share my posts there. I’d be interested to know about being verified. LinkedIn is always suggesting I do it.
Great question and it’s one LinkedIn is nudging a lot of people about at the moment. Verification on LinkedIn simply confirms you are who you say you are. In the UK, that usually means verifying via passport or driving licence through their secure system. You then get a small grey checkmark on your profile.
It doesn’t boost reach. It doesn’t improve the algorithm. LinkedIn has confirmed verification is about identity and trust, not distribution. That said, in sectors where credibility matters, such as legal, finance or advisory, it can add a subtle layer of reassurance. Particularly if you’re connecting with people who don’t know you yet.
If you’ve had your account for years and post consistently, it’s not essential. But it’s free, quick, and can reduce impersonation risk.

Oh… That’s a good question.
I’m not sure, I hadn’t thought about it in those ways.
Existing clients and followers probably.
These are my two favourite platforms and where I'm putting the majority of my energy right now. Would love to learn more about synergies.

Love that. If those are your two priority platforms, that’s already half the battle won.
The synergy usually comes down to role clarity.

I love this. And honestly, this is a good tension to be sitting in - you’re not confused. You’re evolving!!
The fact that inbound is coming from LinkedIn tells you it’s already working.
The real question is this: what do you want LinkedIn to be known for in 12 months...
Oh! GREAT question
