13 Medium Publications That Can Nominate Your Stories for A Boost
Get to know Medium's official Nominators and join their publications to help Medium find your amazing stories and earn more $$$.
Medium is moving in an amazing direction.
We already talked about Medium’s new Boost Program and how it elevates great writing in last week’s newsletter edition.
Since then, hundreds of people have already seen or read about my interview with Ariel Meadow Stallings , Medium’s new Director of Publication Relations.
As promised, I’ll continue the All About Medium’s Boost series.
Today I want to pull back the curtain and dive a bit deeper into how Medium is teaming up with publication editors to find the best stories and hidden gems.
Medium’s Community of Publication Editors Who Can Nominate Stories for A Boost
On Medium, there are 8,000 active publications.
Currently, there are 62 nominators that are having a major say in what gets Boosted.
From the feedback I've received, most people don't know who Medium's Community Nominators are, which publications are participating in the program, and what nominators do.
Ariel Meadow Stallings from Medium explained the process to me:
The 3 Step-Boost-System (As I Call It):
1 — A Community Nominator in the Boost Beta program can suggest a few stories every week for Boost consideration and thus helps Medium to find hidden gems.
2 — Medium’s internal Curation Team reviews the nominations to see if it fits with Medium’s Distribution Guidelines.
3 — If the nominated story is a good fit with the guidelines, the internal Curation Team approves the nomination for wider distribution and eventually Boosts it!
If this happens, the nominator receives up to $900 USD per month.
Who are those Nominators?
Medium’s CEO, Tony Stubblebine, declined to share the names and publications but within the last past weeks, I’ve found 13 for you!
They have the “taste” to select excellent stories in their area of expertise from across the platform.

I bet many of your favorite publications are already part of the program because Medium has already invited editors from many genres.
🌟Spoiler alert: Ariel’s goal is to onboard as many publications and editors as possible within the upcoming weeks so that publishers of every background and style are present in the Boost Program.
1 — Wise & Well — #Health, #Science, #Relationships
Robert Roy Britt is the author of Make Sleep Your Superpower and the owner of Medium’s new health and science publication Wise & Well.
It’s “offering science-backed insights into healthy behaviors to cultivate physical health and mental well-being”.
In addition, the new publication Wise & Well is Boost-eligible.
Since Robert is one of the 62 Community Nominators on Medium, he can nominate stories for a Boost and so can his publication.

2 — Modern Women — #Womanhood, #Feminism, #Parenting
The new lead editor of Modern Women is part of the trial group of nominators that can Boost stories.
Her name is Adeola Sheehy.
Besides being the lead editor of Modern Women she’s a columnist at The Green Parent magazine.
“I applied to be one of the lucky new curators because I want to raise women’s voices and widen our audiences…”
3 — The Riff — #Music, #Culture, #Society
Via a story by Linda Caroll, I found out that Kevin Alexander is part of the new Boost Beta program.
“Yep, The Riff is one of the pubs that can now boost stories!”
The Riff is Medium’s premier music publication.
So if you’re passionate about #Music, why not write with The Riff?
4 — The Generator — #Artificial Intelligence, #Technology, #Future
Thomas Smith from DIY Life Tech has a new publication on Medium called The Generator.
Tom can nominate stories about generative AI in his publication for a Boost.
Plus, he can highlight other generative AI stories on Medium for a Boost if they meet Medium’s criteria.

5 — The Memoirist — #Life, #LifeLessons, #ThisHappenedToMe
I know writer and dad Christopher Robin from my early days on Medium.
So I was super excited when I heard that he can Boost stories together with his colleague from The Memoirist KiKi Walter .
They have been tasked with bringing the best of the best of Medium’s memoirs and personal essays to the table.
“When I received the email to join the program, I pulled off the road to reply. As exciting as it is for me personally, the real benefit is to the writers.

She’s scouring her publication and the platform for the best spiritual stories.

7— The Writing Cooperative — #Writing, #Reading, #Advice
One of Medium’s biggest publications, The Writing Cooperative, also belongs to the list of Medium publications that can nominate your stories for a Boost.
The owner of The Writing Cooperative Justin Cox with This Week In Writing recently shared excitingly:
“So far, nine of the ten stories I nominated were boosted. I take this newfound responsibility seriously and want to promote the best of the best.”
8 — The Narrative Arc —#This Happened to Me, #Life, #LifeLessons
Just recently Debra Groves Harman, Med.became a nominator.
In order to get nominated by Debra, you need to submit “excellent, heartfelt, without error, and strong” personal essays and memoirs to The Narrative Arc.
What I love is that at the top of the publication she shares a “Boost Gallery” that shows curated stories.
“Move us with your words! Personal essays and memoirs I nominate must be outstanding — with power, strength, nuance, and imagery. (…)

9 — Fanfare — #Culture, #Movie, #TV, #Books, #Gaming
Eric Pierce from All the Fanfare is the proud owner of Fanfare on Medium.
Fanfare is one of Medium’s largest Pop Culture publications.
It’s all about entertaining.
Topics are: Film, TV, Culture, Star Wars, Marvel, Gaming, Books.
And guess what? Watching a lot of TV is an expertise.
Medium “clarified that they aren’t talking about credentials. Being a fan of something IS an expertise. And they further suggested the writer should demonstrate this expertise in the story”, Eric shared.

She’s a data engineer at Netflix and the owner of the Medium publication Data Engineer Things (DET) Data Engineer Things .
Xinran Waibel is also part of the Boost Program and can nominate stories about data engineering for a big fat Boost so that your story can be seen by more audiences.
12 — UX Collective — #Design
Designer Fabricio Teixeira owns one of Medium’s biggest publications called UX Collective UX Collective .
It’s the largest design publication on Medium.
“The program makes me feel seen as a publication editor”, the Nominator shared.
13 — AfroSapiophile — #Culture, #Society, #Politics, #History, #BlackLivesMatters
For him, “(n)ominating feels almost like a calling.“
Street photographer Johnny Silvercloud always figured it was his responsibility to amplify other writers’ stories.
